FALL ORC 2018
I'm so excited to be jumping in with both feet once more with ONE ROOM CHALLENGE hosted by Better Homes & Gardens and Love Home Network. They are the rad folks hosting this bi-annual renovation fest where bloggers, DIY-ers and designers all roll up their sleeves and renovate a room in six short weeks. I will be taking you along while I makeover our sad, vanilla Master Bedroom and you can check in for weekly updates via Instagram. Trust me the stories never disappoint when you're renovating live.....
Let's get into it. Let's get real. Reeeeeaaaaaaalllllllll vanilla. The stale cracker bedroom with ZERO overhead lighting and no personality. Don't believe me? Check out these BEFORE photos. We need spunk, pizzaz and way more zen, mmmmmkay?
Maybe it was one too many nights with a carton of lo mein, maybe it was my obsession with the Quentin Tarantino movie Kill Bill or maybe, just mayyyyyybe... it's Mr. Mesa's turn to make some decisions in home decor. I've taken some of his style, our existing furniture and a splash of fun to create a Zen space that encompasses the MESA CASA vibe. Without further ado.....
The entire house up to this point has pivoted around a black, white and caramel brown color pallet with global accents that hinted at our travels in Africa. I love neutrals and mixing in splashes of color that can be switched out with the changing of seasons... but I'm feeling bold.
I mean BLUE BOLD.
With rust and mandarin orange accents! Whhhaaaaaat?
The wall mural is where this whole crazy scheme began. Once my eyes landed on the Great Wave of Kanagawa I couldn't get it out of my head. Murals Your Way makes it easy with peel & stick panels that go up in minutes and can be removed with less effort than your nail polish. With no permanent commitment I figured going bold was harmless!
I wanted to make this room a place to showcase some of my fellow small shop compadres with accents and accessories that would pull this wild mural into a cohesive and zen escape. I sent my rug huntress, Becca from June & Blue, on the mission of finding a vintage moroccan pile of magic and she delivered! If you need me I'll be signing Steppenwolf on the floor and pretending to take a magic carpet ride.
Ok, ok. I'll get back to reality and off the rug if I can stand here and pet my orange, velvety pillows from Cassie at Modern Clementine. She located the perfect burnt shade of rust to accent all of the cool blue and grey tones I will be adding to this room. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to keep Marvin, the shed-monster, off of these glorious squares of heaven. Laser beams? Alarms? Armed guards? If you know the perfect pup deterrent... let a girl know!
We aren't holding out on the DIY train either! Get ready for building your own modern barn door and incorporating some new Southern Mesa Trading products that will be hitting the shop in November. We've got barn door hardware making it's way to the states via the amazing Canada based company AhiHardware. We've had a view of the bathroom from our bed that I will be happy to see go.
We will also be blocking out that harsh Florida sun with Sunburst Shutters located right here on the Emerald Coast! I'm so excited to be working with a local business that puts so much care into every detail of their work. I've been practicing my best disney princess scenes of opening the shutters to sing to the morning light. Someone cue the magical talking birds, please?!
I've got more details to spill but we can't give it all away on the first date! Stay tuned each week and make sure to go check out some of the other participants from the Featured Bloggers page and all of the incredible guest participants. It's going to be a rockin' October!
Rock on,
Christina
